Top Ten Tuesday: The Name Game

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is all about names, mainly the names of characters we love so much that we would name something—or someone—after them. I’m pretty sure that I wouldn’t ever name a dog or a baby after a character’s whole name, meaning their first AND last name, but I would definitely use first names. Especially since it doesn’t really matter to me if everyone else knows who I’ve named them after, I’ll know. So, these are some of the characters I would name my children after if I could! Oh, and I’m really into what names mean and will only give my kids names that mean wonderful things, so all the names on this list also fall into that category because, yes, I looked them up.

Beckett Walker/ Beckett Rush

I have kind of fallen in love with the name Beckett recently, and I think that partly might be because I’ve read a few fantastic books with characters named Beckett, namely Keep Holding On by Melissa Tagg and There You’ll Find Me by Jenny B. Jones. Another thing that I love about the name Beckett is that it means “stream,” and while that isn’t a really over-the-top meaning, it is something that is important and life-giving. So I would definitely consider naming my future son after Beckett Walker and Beckett Rush.

Anna Aubrey

Anna is such a sweet, cute name that I’ve loved for quite some time, but I’ve never really considered naming my future daughter that until now. But Anna Aubrey, from Lori Benton’s The Wood’s Edge, is such a fantastic character and I would love to name one of my children after her. Besides, Anna means “gracious,” so I would have to hope that would mean my daughter would be gracious like her name.

Brice Myerston

Brice is not actually a name I’m really all that in love with, but I do absolutely love this character, so it wouldn’t be hard for me to imagine naming a son after him. Brice Myerston is by far my favorite character from Roseanna M. White’s The Reluctant Duchess, and that is probably because he is just super sweet and is always in tune with God’s leading. I would have to hope that if I named a son after him, he’d be the same way, and that he would be quick-moving, like the meaning of his name.

Celia Park

Celia is a name I never would have thought I would love, but it has actually become one of my favorites! It is just so cute and unique, and I absolutely love that it means “heavenly.” Plus, it would always be a wonderful thing to name a daughter after Celia Park from Meant to Be Mine by Becky Wade! Celia is such a strong, kindhearted character, and it would be an honor to name a child after her.

James Cayton

One of my new all-time favorite characters is James Cayton from Roseanna M. White’s A Lady Unrivaled, so I would love to name one of my sons after him. Plus I just think naming a little boy James and then calling him Jamie would be super cute, and I love that the name means “one who follows.” I would like to interpret it as one who follows the Lord, even though I know that isn’t exactly what is meant, because it gives it all that much more of a special meaning.

Eliza Sumner

Eliza is another name that I absolutely love, although it is mostly because of its meaning. It means “pledged to God,” and I have just fallen in love with the thought of that. Plus, it would never be a bad thing to name my daughter after Lady Eliza Sumner from Jen Turano’s A Change of Fortune, as she is just a wonderful character who is definitely worthy of the name.

Lucas Brannen/ Lucas Wright

Lucas is a name that I have been in love with for quite some time, probably because I know of TONS of characters I love who bear that name. I’ve just stuck with mentioning two, but you should also know I love Lucas from Girl Meets World as well. Anyway, I love that it means “light-giving,” and I also love the idea of naming a son Lucas and then calling him Luke. So I can definitely see myself naming one of my children after Lucas Brannen from Betsy St. Amant’s All’s Fair in Love and Cupcakes and Lucas Wright from Denise Hunter’s The Convenient Groom.

Megan Cole

Megan is another cute name that I love, and I feel like its meaning actually ties in perfectly with the character I’m mentioning. It means “strong” or “able,” and I think Meg Cole from Becky Wade’s Undeniably Yours was definitely both of those things. That makes it easy for me to think I might name one of my children after her.

Owen Christiansen

Owen is another name that I absolutely love, and I know that is partially because I fell in love with Owen Christiansen when I first read his book—You’re the One That I Want—by Susan May Warren. So I can definitely imagine naming one of my children after him, and I will say that it is quite possibly the most likely name on this list that I will actually use. And I just love that it means “young warrior” and “noble.”

Sophie Dupont/Sophie Menzies

Sophie is another name that I really love almost completely because of the characters who also bear that name. Sophie Dupont from Julie Klassen’s The Painter’s Daughter and Sophie Menzies from Laura Frantz’s The Mistress of Tall Acre are two of my favorite heroines of all-time, so I would love to name one of my daughters after them. Plus, I just love that it means “wisdom.”

Those are ten characters I would name my kids after! What about you? Who are some characters you would name something/someone after?
Happy Tuesday and happy reading!

  1. I too only want to name my children names that mean something. My daughter's name means "Always Belonging to God". That's put a lot of pressure on us to come up with an equally great name for our next kid. I've found a first name that I love for a girl but I haven't found the right middle name to pair with it yet. Great list!

  2. I really like Beckett for a child's name. It makes me think of a really playful, mischievous little boy.
