Always Watching by Lynette Eason

Intensity. Skill. Tenacity. The bodyguards of Elite Guardians Agency have it all.
When it becomes clear that popular psychiatrist and radio personality Wade Savage has a stalker, his father secretly hires Elite Guardians to protect his son. But when Wade’s bodyguard is attacked and nearly killed, agency owner Olivia Edwards must step in and fill the gap.
Olivia’s skills are about to be tested to the limit as Wade’s stalker moves from leaving innocent gifts at his door to threatening those closest to him—including Olivia but in her mind, even more dangerous than the threats to her life is the hold her handsome client has on her heart.

Always Watching is the first book in Lynette Eason’s Elite Guardians series, and is also the first book I have ever read by her. I haven’t really had a lot of success when trying out new suspense novels in the past so I was a little unsure when I picked up this novel, but I have to say, I really enjoyed it! Although it took me quite some time to finally find the time to get through it, once I got to the extremely suspenseful ending, it was pretty much smooth sailing to the end. I had a few suspicions as to who the stalker was, but I didn’t know for sure and I absolutely had no idea who his/her accomplice was, so I desperately wanted to get to the end and find out. I have to say, once I did, I was completely floored!
Olivia Edwards is such an amazing character! I feel like that is such an empty statement, but there are no words—or none that I am willing to use—that can truly describe how really awesome she is, with all her tough as nails, I’ll protect you at all costs, bodyguard stuff. She’s truly fantastic, but what I really loved was getting to know the heart on the inside behind all her strong exterior. She had such a tumultuous past, full of the type of heartbreak and pain no one should ever have to go through, and it helped me to better understand why she is the way that she is.
Wade Savage is an extremely stubborn character! All while Olivia is trying to help him he continually places himself in the path of danger, and though I know it is just because he is a protector at heart, if I was Olivia I would have completely lost my patience with him! Otherwise, he was a completely wonderful and caring man—and I guess that protective instinct just proves my point—and I loved watching him interact with his daughter, Amy.
All in all, this is definitely a very interesting story, and the mystery most certainly kept me captivated from page one. Wade’s stalker was a really serious threat, and was an extremely terrible person who committed some very serious crimes! Every time I read a suspense or mystery novel, I am taken aback by how horrible humans can be when they’re taken over by sin, and this book was no exception. I am happy to give this story four out of five bookshelves, for being a very enjoyable read, despite some of the conversation being a little bit surface-y at times (yes, I know that isn’t technically a word). I have to say, the unexpected twists and turns had to be my favorite part about this novel, and I am excited to read more of Lynette’s books in the future!
Happy reading!
