September is somehow already here, and for me, that means
one thing. FOOTBALL!!!!!!!!! Football season is finally here, and I couldn’t be
happier. Also, September means quite a few new books that I am dying to read,
so I am getting ready to be fairly busy! Here are my must-have novels for the
month!
When the Bishop Needs
an Alibi by Vannetta Chapman
When the Bishop Needs an Alibi is the second book in Vannetta’s The Amish Bishop Mysteries series, coming after What the Bishop Saw.
A terrible secret hides in the
bulrushes.
Amish bishop Henry
Lapp eagerly awaits the annual arrival of 20,000 sandhill cranes to the San
Luis Valley of Colorado. But his visit to the Monte Vista National Wildlife
Refuge reveals more than just a miracle of God’s creation. Hidden among the
bulrushes and cattails is the deceased body of a young woman.
As the local
authorities attempt to unravel the mystery, Henry feels God’s calling to use
his extraordinary talent to aid in the investigation. His ability to draw from
memory in photographic detail could help solve this puzzling case.
Henry’s closest
friend, Emma Fisher, has always urged him to embrace his gift. As their
relationship deepens, Henry realizes his involvement could put him and those he
loves in the direct path of a killer, one who is willing to do anything to
cover up a brutal crime, including framing the bishop.

become a doctor. But the Oregon frontier of the 1870s is an unforgiving
place—especially for a single mother. To support herself and her young son,
Jennie finds work caring for an older woman. When her patient dies, Jennie
discovers that her heart has become entangled with the woman’s widowed husband,
a man many years her senior. Their unlikely romance may lead her to her
ultimate goal—but the road forward is uncertain.
Bringing Maggie Home
by Kim Vogel Sawyer
Bringing Maggie Home is a stand-alone novel.
Decades of loss, an unsolved
mystery, and a rift spanning three generations…
Hazel DeFord is a
woman haunted by her past. While berry picking in a blackberry thicket in 1943,
ten-year-old Hazel momentarily turns her back on her three-year-old sister
Maggie and the young girl disappears.
Almost seventy years
later, the mystery remains unsolved and the secret guilt Hazel carries has
alienated her from her daughter Diane, who can’t understand her mother’s
overprotectiveness and near paranoia. While Diane resents her mother’s
inexplicable eccentricities, her daughter Meghan—a cold case agent—cherishes
her grandmother’s lavish attention and affection.
When a traffic
accident forces Meghan to take a six-week-leave-of-absence to recover, all
three generations of DeFord women find themselves unexpectedly under the same
roof. Meghan knows she will have to act as a mediator between the two
headstrong and contentious women. But when they uncover Hazel’s painful secret,
will Meghan also be able to use her investigative prowess to solve the family
mystery and help both women recover
all that’s been lost?
Cherished Mercy by Tracie
Peterson
Cherished Mercy is the third book in Tracie’s Heart of the Frontier series, coming after Treasured Grace and Beloved
Hope.
As Oregon Territory teeters on
the brink of armed conflict, one woman strives for peace.
Mercy Flanagan
survived the Whitman Massacre as a child, and now her heart’s cry is for peace
between the native peoples and the white settlers inhabiting Oregon Territory.
Unfortunately, most of the settlers want the tribes removed from the land
completely, one way or another.
At the request of
family friend Eletta Browning, who is experiencing a difficult pregnancy, Mercy
travels south to the Rogue River Valley to help. At the Browning Mission, she
meets Eletta’s brother-in-law, Adam. Despite her attempts to befriend him, Adam
seems determined to focus on ministering to the local tribes and keeps her at
arm’s length. Why is he so intent on pushing her away?
When tragedy strikes
and tensions in the territory reach the combustion point, Mercy is pushed to
the limit of her strength. She and Adam will have to rely on their faith in God
and on each other in order to make it out alive.
An Inconvenient
Beauty by Kristi Ann Hunter
An Inconvenient Beauty is the fourth book in Kristi’s Hawthorne House series, coming after A Noble Masquerade, An Elegant Façade, and An Uncommon Courtship.
Griffith, Duke of
Riverton, likes order, logic, and control, so he naturally applies this
rational approach to his search for a bride. While he’s certain Miss Frederica
St. Claire is the perfect wife for him, she is strangely elusive, and he can’t
seem to stop running into her stunningly beautiful cousin, Miss Isabella
Breckenridge.
Isabella should be
enjoying her society debut, but with her family in difficult circumstances, she
has no choice but to agree to a bargain that puts her at odds with all her
romantic hopes—as well as her conscience. And the more she comes to know
Griffith, the more she regrets the unpleasant obligation that prevents her from
any dream of a future with him.
As all Griffith’s and
Isabella’s long-held expectations are shaken to the core, can they set aside
their pride and fear long enough to claim a happily-ever-after?
The Proving by
Beverly Lewis
The Proving is a stand-alone novel.
“Mandy, you are to inherit the
farmhouse, including the business of the inn.”
She could scarcely find her voice
to respond. “Ach, this must be a
mistake,” she told him, shaking her head as she talked into the phone, feeling
befuddled. “The house…and everything related to the inn…shouldn’t that go to
Arie Mae?”
After five years as an
Englisher, Amanda Dienner is shocked to learn her mother has passed away and
left her Lancaster County’s most
popular Amish bed-and-breakfast. What’s more, the inn will only truly be hers
if Mandy can successfully run it for twelve months. Reluctantly, Mandy accepts
the challenge, no matter that it means facing the family she left behind—or
that the inn’s clientele expect an Amish hostess! Can Mandy fulfill the terms of her inheritance? Or will this
prove a dreadful mistake?

none other than Lady Blackstone and Ratley. Their devious plot is to overthrow

Many Sparrows by Lori
Benton
Many Sparrows is a stand-alone novel.
Either she and her children would
emerge from that wilderness together, or none of them would…

Ohio-Kentucky frontier pulses with rising tension and brutal conflicts as
Colonists push westward and encroach upon Native American territories. The
young Inglesby family is making the perilous journey west when an accident sends

Clare and their four-year-old son Jacob on a remote mountain trail. When Philip

darkness, Clare awakens the next morning to find herself utterly alone, in
labor and wondering how she can recover her son…especially when her second
child is moments away from being born.
Clare will face the
greatest fight of her life, as she struggles to reclaim her son from the
Shawnee Indians now holding him captive. But with the battle lines sharply
drawn, Jacob’s life might not be the only one at stake. When frontiersman
Jeremiah Ring comes to her aid, can the stranger convince Clare that recovering
her son will require the very thing her anguished heart is unwilling to do—be
